The recent workday at Rock Spring Park was deemed a success by all involved, and work continues to restore the park to its former condition.  Alton Middle School students and staff joined with other volunteers to help clear deadfall and invasive brush from the park.  Over four large truckloads of material was cleared and chipped.

Clearing brush, attending to problem spots, and cleaning up in general are all projects targeted by the kids, who are taking ownership of the park and their work, according to The Sierra Club’s Christine Favilla, who says one goal of this project is to turn the park into an outdoor classroom of sorts for the neighboring middle school.

Alton's Rock Spring Park is the home of 3 shelters, play equipment, 6 tennis courts, ball diamonds, waterfall fountain, natural areas, picnic areas and bleachers, and an 18 hole disc golf course.
