There were mixed messages from top Democrats at the Governor’s Day festivities in Springfield. Many Democrats, such as Attorney General Lisa Madigan, talked up the party’s chances of victory in the November election. “I think the top of the ticket is going to be an exciting place and I think we’re going to see today, and in the next three months, a lot of activity and a lot of people that are going to be energized,” said Madigan.

However, Secretary of State Jesse White says he is worried about the race for governor. “It’s probably one of the most hotly contested races I’ve ever experienced,” said White.

White is most concerned about Republican governor candidate Bruce Rauner’s courting of the African American vote and the way he’s doing it. Rauner recently pledged $1 million to a credit union in Chicago.
