The 10th annual Cycle Across Illinois began today in Alton as police officers, family and friends of fellow officers who died or were injured in the line of duty began a 325-plus mile ride from the Mississippi River to Soldier Field in Chicago.   The ride this morning began with 53 cyclists who will travel today to Springfield.

The group Concern of Police Survivors, or COPS, is sponsoring the event and riders each raise at least $600 each to help support the surviving family members through the organization.   A police escort and support vehicles will join the riders along the route that will also stop in Bloomington tomorrow night, at Lewis University in Romeoville on Saturday night and Chicago on Sunday.
