Galesburg Post 285 has decided to play in the Great Lakes Regional this week in Terre Haute, Indiana. One of its players has died from injuries he suffered in a single-car crash Saturday coming home from the state tournament in Arlington Heights. 16-year old Jason Maulden died Sunday evening after being involved in the accident -- which occurred on Interstate 80 near Ottawa.
Maulden’s grandfather was the driver and was killed in the crash. Maulden’s mother was also seriously injured in the accident – she remains hospitalized.
Post 285 from Galesburg will wear a patch with his initials (JM) honoring their teammate who died.
Maulden was getting ready to start his senior year at Galesburg High School.
Barrington won the state title Saturday beating Galesburg, 10-7 in the title game. Both Barrington and Galesburg qualified for the Great Lakes Regional this week in Indiana.
