Ground has been broken at the site of the Miles Davis Memorial in downtown Alton. Just before 9:30am this (Wednesday) morning, city crews began sawing and jack hammering concrete in the area that will become the memorial plaza. A small but enthusiastic crowd gathered for the groundbreaking.
Among them was Pat Ackman, chairman of the Miles Davis Memorial Project Committee. She tells The Big Z this is the first of many more steps.
