David Backes scored 9:04 into overtime to give the Blues a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks in Game One of their Western Conference First Round playoff series Wednesday night at Scottrade Center.
Backes' centering pass from the lower left hand circle caromed off the skate of a Blackhawk defenseman (Trevor Van Riemsdyk) and went into the net.
Chicago outshot St. Louis, 35-18 in the game. St. Louis goalie Brian Elliott made 35 saves in the shutout. Chicago goalie Corey Crawford made 17 saves in the loss.
*Game two of the best of seven series will be Friday night (7 pm) in St. Louis. Game three shifts to Chicago on Sunday.
