Alton Post 126 halted a 4 game losing streak with a shutout win last night in Collinsville 12-0. Pitcher Jason Roberts went the distance in the 5-inning contest, allowing just one hit, and striking out 5. Shane Matthews was 3-4, with 4 RBI’s, Austin Stilts was 3-3, knocking in 2 runs. Sixteen hits in the game for Post 126 who improve to 9-9 on the year.
Alton has the day off today as it prepares for the 15 team Firecracker Classic Tournament this weekend. Alton, Belleville and Fairview Heights are the three host sites for the games beginning Saturday and running through Monday.
Alton will play at 10am and 7pm on both Saturday and Sunday at Hopkins Field at GordonMoorePark. The semi finals and championship games will be on Monday at Belleville.
Locally, in addition to Alton, Belleville, Fairview Heights, Hamilton, Champaign, Pekin, and Moline are the Illinois teams competing this year. Other teams hail from Missouri, Arkansas, and Minnesota.
The American Legion Tournament of Champions is also taking place starting Saturday, with Bethalto, Edwardsville and Highland the host sites. Bethalto will play at 10am and 8pm on Saturday and Sunday at the Sports Complex. The tournament semi-finals and championship game will be played Monday in Bethalto.
Troy, Quincy and Morton are the other Illinois teams taking part along with teams from Missouri and Arkansas.
