William Lafferty

William J. Lafferty, 81, passed away at 9:43 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 14, 1933 in Brighton, he was a son of Harry and Nellie (Brown) Lafferty.

The U.S. Army veteran was a self-employed roofer, and retired from Local #2.  He was an avid race fan, affiliated with Lafferty Racing, and was a flagman at Godfrey Speedway and Tri-City Speedway.  He was also a past member of the Bush Pilots Motorcycle Club.

He was formerly married to Janice (Fish) Lafferty, who survives.

Also surviving are sons, Bobby Lafferty of Livingston, Ill., William “Bill” “Junior” Lafferty of Lufkin, Tex.; daughters, Renee (George) Macatee-Medford of Lebanon, Mo., Judy (Alan) Thomas of East Alton, Debbie Kessinger of Alton, Dana (Jim) Seymour of Alton, and Carol Brandon of Atlanta; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; 4 stepchildren, Robert Whitten, Mary (Monte) Cope, and Melissa Honchell, all of Wood River, and Danielle (Sherman) Williams of Alton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenny Lafferty; 3 brothers Harold “Joe”, Jim, and Corkey Lafferty; and a sister, May.

Memorial visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 17 at Paynic Home for Funerals.  Family and friends will gather at the funeral home Wednesday, March 18 for a procession, leaving at 9 a.m. to Upper Alton Cemetery.
