William “Bill” A. Johnson, age 78, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at 7:05 am at his residence with his family by his side.
Bill was born in St. Louis, MO on July 28, 1936, son of the late Elmus V. & Leta A. (Ross) Johnson.
He married Virginia L. (Chesnut) on February 24, 1956 in Alton.
Bill was an iron worker with Local # 396 out of St. Louis, MO, he then with his wife opened in1983 a rigging business named Riggers & Erectors Inc. out of St. Louis being in business for 17 years. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, the Elks Lodge # 2316 in Florissant, MO and Alton Eagles FOE 254. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends at the lake property.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters and their spouses, Donna Holley of Canton, NC, Stasia & John Meierotto of Brighton, Micah & Tom Barnes of Godfrey and Julia & Jay Ringering of Litchfield; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren with one on the way and one sister and her spouse, June & Edward Carter of Akron, OH
Proceeded in death by his parents; two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL.
Mass will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, IL with Father Steve Pohlman officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital and or Central Institute for the Deaf.
