Verna A. Hoffman, 96, died at 10:35 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab. Born July 16, 1918 in Godfrey, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Clara (Vollmer) Hoffman. She was office manager for various Cadillac dealerships in downtown Alton beginning with John Brown in 1938 then working for Lee Klein and later retiring from Mercer Cadillac. She then sold Mary Kay for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ for over 60 years, a member of Zonta International, and an avid quilter. Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Jim, Jack, Lawrence “Pip”, Leo “Butch”, Frank, Herb, and Ed Hoffman, and two sisters, Viola Huebener and Clara Strasser. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2014 at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey. Reverend Jerry MeCaskey will officiate.
