Shirley Monken—Wood River
Shirley A. Monken, 69, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at her home.
Born May 6, 1944 in Bloomington, Ill. she was a daughter of Carl and Dorothy (Moore) Beyer.
She retired in December of 2012 from KinderCare in Edwardsville. Previously she was the preschool director at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River, and had been daycare director at Eden in Edwardsville.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Ronald Barnes and Paula and James Luebbert, all of Bethalto, and Diane and Brandon Perry of Fayetteville, N.C.; 7 grandchildren, Kevin and Ryan Luebbert, Jennifer Tipsword, Stephanie and Christopher Barnes, and Lucas and Timothy Perry; great grandchildren, Cohl Barnes and Emma Graham; a sister and brother-in-law, Carlene and John Potter of Benton, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews in Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River, and will continue Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
