Rodney “Rebel” Dean Akins, 65, passed away at 3:07 pm Monday, March 23, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on October 22, 1949 in Ironton, MO, the son of David and Orpha (Vogler) Akins.
Rodney served his country in the U.S. Marines. He was avid collector of memorabilia.
He is survived by his father, David of Ironton, MO; one son and two daughters and their spouses, Mike Akins of Bowling Green, MO, Mickey (Chris) Erb of St. Louis, MO and Marty (Doug) Southard of Wood River; one stepson, Matthew Beatty in the U.S. Marines; ten grandchildren, Dylan Akins, Sydney Akins, Michael Akins Jr., Noah Erb, Spencer Erb, Ella Erb, Henry Erb, Ryder Erb, Skylar Southard, Mattie Southard and was expecting a granddaughter, Millie Southard; one great granddaughter, Brandi Akins; his siblings, Burly Akins, David Akins and Tammy Fishbeck.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, March 30, 2015 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the funeral home with Chaplain Bruce Baumberger officiating.
Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
