Robert “Bob” Henry Meehan, 86, passed away at 7:25 am Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on July 28, 1929 in Bunker Hill, IL, the son of Thomas David and Amelia (Decker) Meehan Sr.

He married Leona Heuer on January 7, 1951 in Bunker Hill.  She passed away on November 5, 2007. He later married Phyllis Massick on April 28, 2012 in Michigan.  She survives.

Bob was owner/operator of Meehan’s Grocery in Bunker Hill and Bethalto.  He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto.  He was a 4th Degree Knight, a Grand Knight and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Bethalto.  He also was a Winter Texan and a member of the Sit and Chat Club for over 50 years.

In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Diane (Tom) McKaig of Edwardsville, Debbie Meehan (Deb Bertinetti) of Shipman, and Denise (Greg) Bruckert of Bunker Hill; four grandchildren and their spouses, Bret (Melissa) McKaig, Kasey McKaig, Kristopher Bruckert and Kelsey (Justin) Hamilton; three great grandchildren, Hunter and Brady McKaig and Amelia “Mia” Hamilton; a brother-in-law and his wife, Kenneth (Judyth) Heuer of Dorsey and several nieces and nephews as well as his extended family in Michigan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his siblings, Thomas Meehan Jr., Kathleen Spellman, Eileen Bode and Rosemary Hubach.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto.

A Funeral Mass will be at 10 am Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the church with Father Tom Liebler and Father Kevin Sullivan officiating.

Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Youth Group for trip to Poland or Our Lady Queen of Peace Food Pantry.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto will be in charge of arrangements.
