Orville Holtmann

Orville John Holtmann, 68, passed away at 4:04 am on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born on January 6, 1947, in Highland, IL, the son of the late Orville G. & Blanche M. (Conrad) Holtmann.

He was married to Ruth A. (Hamby) on December 15, 1969 in Edwardsville celebrating 45 years of marriage.   She survives.

Orville graduated from Edwardsville High School. He served in Vietnam with United States Army. He was employed for 10 years at Owens Illinois Glass and 21 years out of Labor Local 338 retiring in 1996.  He attended the Bethalto 1st Baptist Church. He was a Bethalto Volunteer Fire Fighter for 20 years and a Bethalto Jaycee for many years. Orville enjoyed farming, attending sports events to see his grandchildren, visiting Las Vegas, attending auctions and spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. He enjoyed his time at the Bethalto McDonald’s drinking coffee with his friends.

He is survived by his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Derik & Cheryl Holtmann of Fairview Heights; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn & Eric Nichols of Staunton; five grandchildren, Kyle and Rachel Holtmann and Maddie, Grace and Bohdan Nichols; three siblings and their spouses, Norma & Kenny Hartlieb of Jamestown, IL, Donald & Bev Holtmann of Glen Carbon and Donna & Jeff Mick of Edwardsville and his mother-in-law, Louise Hamby of Cottage Hills. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great niece and great nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, James Hamby and his brother-in-law, James Paul Hamby.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 11 am on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Charles West officiating.

Burial will at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to Metro East Humane Society.
