Oliver F. Schroeder, 96, died at 8:38 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015 at Morningside in Godfrey. Born March 31, 1919 in Brighton, he was the son of Frank and Louise (Schmidt) Schroeder. Mr. Schroeder served in the U.S. Army Infantry during WWII and fought in the Battle of Bulge. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a carpenter for the Olin Corporation retiring after 40 years of service. He also owned Schroeder’s Vegetable Farm for 50 years and was a member of the Godfrey Congregational Church. On October 27, 1940 he married the former Ruth L. Roberts in Godfrey. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2007. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Karen Schroeder of Zanesville, Ohio, Wayne and Peggy Schroeder of Bethalto, and Dan and Martha Schroeder of Godfrey, six grandchildren, Tim Schroeder, Daniel Schroeder (Carrie), Elizabeth Borkovec (Josh), Alex Schroeder, Darrell Schroeder (Cory), and Kayla Mueller, 10 great grandsons, and one great-great granddaughter. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland and Lester Schroeder, and a sister, Bernice Barth. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Godfrey Congregational Church. Reverend Irene Gulovsen will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Godfrey Congregational Church.
