Michael Rodgers

Godfrey |

Michael James Rodgers, 65, of Godfrey, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 22, 2024. Mike was beloved by friends and family for his long-winded storytelling and groan-worthy jokes, and he was loved by all who met him.

Mike was born in Taylorville, Illinois on May 31, 1958, and was raised in Stonington, Illinois. He graduated from Stonington High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Illinois State University. In college, he met his future wife, Suzanne Elaine (Brooks) Rodgers. Upon graduation, the couple married on June 25, 1983 in Jerseyville and moved to Stonington, where Mike served on the village board, before moving to the Alton area and starting a family.

Mike was an avid collector of houseplants, guitars, CDs, records, and stereo equipment. He loved music in all forms, and often went to live concerts.

He worked at many places over the years, and spent the last decade of his career at 1st MidAmerica Credit Union in East Alton, until his retirement in 2020.

In his later years, Mike began to enjoy traveling, first taking road trips with his sons, and eventually flying solo on a Hawaiian vacation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy (Cushing) Rodgers of Stonington, wife Suzanne (Brooks) Rodgers of Godfrey, and father in-law Robert L. Brooks of Jerseyville.

He is survived by his two sons, Adam Rodgers of St. Louis and Nicholas Rodgers, sister Suzane Rodgers-Chenard of Florida, sister in-law Cindy Brooks of Jerseyville, step-mother Karen Rodgers of Sullivan, mother in-law Wilma (Robinson) Brooks of Jerseyville, and many friends who considered him part of their own families.

Mike was adamant that he did not want a funeral, but the family will throw a party to celebrate his life at a later date.

Individuals wishing to make a donation in Mike's honor can contribute to Givin’ it All for Guts (givinitallforguts.org), a charity meaningful to the entire family.

Arrangements are being handled by Crawford Funeral Home of Jerseyville.
