Michael “Mike” B. McGovern, 71, passed away at 8:30 am, Friday, June 21, 2013 at his residence with family by his side.
He was born in Alton, IL on April 9, 1942, the son of the late Carl Byrne and Gladys Marie (Warden) McGovern.
He married Joan Williamson in Alton on June 6, 1964.
Mike co-owned and operated Grandpa Mac’s Ice Cream Emporium & McGovern's Hutch n' Such. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Gateway Hemophilia Association of St. Louis.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; one daughter and her spouse, Sara and Nicholas Fahey of Collinsville; one son and his spouse, Christopher and Elizabeth McGovern of Collinsville; three grandchildren, Noah Fahey, Bailey and Morgan McGovern; in-laws, Juanita McGovern LaGrand and Calvin LaGrand of Elsinore, MO, Virginia Williamson Hale of Noblesville, IN and Kenneth and Angie Williamson of Brandon, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, David McGovern.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gateway Hemophilia Association at 14248 F Manchester Road, PMB#310, Manchester, MO 63011.
