Melvin Neuhaus

GODFREY-  Melvin Charles "Mike" Neuhaus, 79, died at 4:50 p.m., Monday, November 2, 2015 at his residence.He was born on March 14, 1936 in Carpenter, IL. one of five children born to Gustav and Regina (Blom) Neuhaus.Mike graduated from Worden High School, and from 1967 to 1984 owned and operated, along with his wife, the Godfrey Food Shop on Godfrey Road, where they met many loyal and wonderful friends.  He then began working as a meat cutter at Shop n Save, retiring in 2008 from their Edwardsville location.He married the former Sylvia J. "Cookie" Reiske on July 4, 1958 in Carpenter, Il., and together they have been blessed with 57 years of marriage and five wonderful children.Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Neuhaus of Godfrey; four children & their spouses, Michael & Cindy Neuhaus of Collinsville, Mitchell & Diane Neuhaus of Kirkwood, Mo., Monte & Sara Neuhaus of Alton, and Melissa & Joe Balleydier of Holly Springs, NC.; a son in law & his wife, Paul & Laura Robertson of Grafton; 14 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; and two sisters, Eileen Mateyka and Donna Lewis both of Edwardsville.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Mary Eileen Robertson on March 2, 1998; and two brothers Lloyd Neuhaus and Allan "Allie" Neuhaus.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m., until time of funeral services at 10 a.m., at the Faith Lutheran Church in Godfrey.  Rev. Daniel Speckhard will officiate.Burial will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the Faith Lutheran Church in Godfrey or to BJC Hospice.
