Mary Janeen Shafer, 67, passed away at 6:25 am, Friday, March 20, 2015 at home with family at her side.
She was born in LaSalle, IL on July 2, 1947, the daughter of the late Eugene and Elizabeth (Westermayr) Shafer.
Mary was a secretary for JC Schlosser. She enjoyed Bingo and going to Alton Belle Casino. She liked movies and crafting, but mostly spending time with her great nieces and nephews.
She is survived by one sister, Jill (Aloysius, “Bill”) Voelker; one niece, Samantha (Kyle) Marquardt; one nephew, Josh (Erin) Voelker; one great niece, Amelia; and four great nephews, Mason, Jack, Waylon, and Elwood.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the following caregivers for all their care and compassion for Mary over the last year; Becki Matthews, Felicia Caldwell, Dwighteasha “Pink” Thomas, Amy Wallace, Keitra Wallace, Carolynne Faulkner, and a cousin, Cindy Bowman.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am - 10:45 am on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Staten Fine Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
Private burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
