Lola Purdy

Lola Mae Purdy, 101, passed away at 3:12 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at her home with her family by her side.

 Born Dec. 8, 1914 in Carrollton, Ill., she was a daughter of John L. and Lottie (Thaxton) Baumgartner.

She married Louis E. Purdy July 11, 1940 in St. Louis.  He passed away Apr. 21, 2004.

Lola had a green thumb, and her gardens always produced beautiful flowers, which she loved sharing with her friends and church family. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Wood River for 67 years. She also served as piano player in her earlier years at the Roxana Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Patty (Jerry) Todd of Godfrey; a son, Richard “Rick” (Fran) Purdy of Wood River; granddaughters Sherri Colborn, Missy Struiff, Elisa Gates, Alicia Purdy, and Michelle Stassi; grandsons Troy Patton and Steve Horton; great grandchildren Hattie and Lola Mae Struiff, Samantha and Rylie Patton, Aiden and Gianna Stassi, and Max and Lucy Horton, along with several nieces and nephews and special friends Ellen Sanders, Doris Miller, and Becky Stewart.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Charlotte Liles and Norma Rathgeber.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 12 at the United Presbyterian Church in Wood River from 9 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m.  Rev. Pam Laing will officiate.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the church.
