John Wesley Watts, Jr. went to be with the Lord with his family by his side, and joined his wife, Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Bethalto Care Center.
He was born on December 31, 1929 in Hartford, IL, the son of John W. and Flora Hughes Watts, Jr.
He married Charlotte Hose on June 13, 1953, whom he loved very much. She preceded him in death on November 6, 2008.
John served his country in the U.S. Army from March 7, 1947 until August 12, 1948 in Colorado Springs, CO. He was a machinist for the Olin Corporation from September 13, 1948 until his retirement on September 28, 1995. He was a 60 year member of the International Association of Machinists, was a Kansas City Chiefs fan, Cardinals fan and a San Francisco 49ers fan. He enjoyed spending time in Colorado, where he visited several times. While living at Villa Rose he developed many friendships, and loved working puzzles with his friends. He was baptized into the Catholic faith before he passed away and most of all he loved his entire family.
He is survived by a daughter, Janice and Chuck Johnson of Bethalto; three grandchildren and their spouses, B.J. Rust, Angela and Danny Wood all of Bethalto and Steve and Kris Johnson of Brighton; two great grandchildren, Janice Johnson and Charlie Gillis; one sister, Cindy Roberts of Vancouver, WA; many cousins and a niece, Yvonne Short of Jerseyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four half sisters, Ethel, Alma, Pauline and Faye.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf in Bethalto.
Funeral service will be at 10 am Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the funeral home with Father Tom Liebler officiating.
Interment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites given by Alton VFW Post 1308.
