John H. Craig, 88, died at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at his home in Godfrey. Born November 10, 1925 in Alton he was the son of Edward C. and Irene T. (Crawford) Craig.

He retired from the Peavey Flour Mill, now Con Agra, as an electrician. He was a member of the Alton United Methodist Church from 1963 until 2005 when they merged with First United Methodist Church in Godfrey. He was always faithful in putting together the monthly newsletter at church. He volunteered his time driving for the Cancer Van and working with the Bucket Brigade. On May 28, 1963 he married the former Ruth Woods. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2004.

Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Gregory Gaylord of Alton, two grandchildren, Sean Craig (Jennifer) of Alton and Jennifer Gaylord of Alton, two great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Alexander Craig, a brother, Dan Craig (Georgia) of Nampa, Idaho, a sister-in-law, Sylvia Craig of Tucson, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin Craig and Edward “Dutch” Craig.

A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Godfrey. Reverend Don E. Long Jr. will officiate. Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Godfrey or the Crisis Food Center.
