JoAnn G. (Unterbrink) Whitaker, 78, passed away at 10:15 am Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at her home with her loving family by her side.
She was born on January 17, 1936 in Moro, IL, the daughter of Fred and Gladys Unterbrink.
She married Phil Whitaker on September 18, 1955. He survives.
JoAnn retired from the Olin Corporation Payroll Department. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Midway. She was active with the Quilters, the Handbell Choir, Adult Sunday School Class and the Women’s Guild. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals, Line Dancing at the Bethalto Senior Citizens Center and eating at Ned’s.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Monty Jolliff of Mt Vernon and a son Jeff Whitaker of Rosewood Heights; her grandchildren, Ami Jo (John) Lecke, Maggie (Chad) Koester, Lacie Rae Jolliff, Emma (Jon) Ortgiesen, Sam (Kira) Whitaker, Kate Whitaker and Anna Grace Whitaker; twelve great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Armin & Gloria Unterbrink of Moro; and sister-in-law, Mima Unterbrink of Bethalto.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Marvin
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday, November 7, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf in Bethalto.
Visitation will continue from 10 am until services at 11 am Saturday, November 8, 2014 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Midway with Pastor Lori Schaefer officiating.
Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
