James E. Langford SR, 76, passed away at 10:27 am, on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Bethalto Care Center in Bethalto, IL.
He was born in Alton, IL on August 27, 1937 the son of the late John Edward and Lavene Anna (Travis) Langford.
Jim married Jacqueline L. (Griesbaum) on April 15, 1960 in Edwardsville, she survives.
Jim served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a welder at Owens Illinois Glass for over 32 years and was employed at Wedge Bank for 4 years before retiring; he was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church in Alton and the Piasa Black Powder Burners. He loved to bowl, fish and do wood working. He was an avid animal lover and greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He and Jacki were actively involved with Compassionate Friends for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife and a son and his spouse; James E. and Teresa Langford II of Wood River, an aunt and uncle; Frank and Marietta Travis of Godfrey, two sister-in-law’s and there spouses; Dwight and Judy File of Alton and Janet and Roy Smith of Florida, several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter; Susan L. Langford on September 9, 1978 and twin siblings.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 by the Rev. Don Long officiating.
Burial will follow at the Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton, with the Alton VFW Post 1308 performing military honors.
