Hubert Thomas Arnold, 87, of Wood River, IL, died at 5:05 a.m. Sun. Aug.3, 2014 at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, IL.
He was born Aug. 13, 1926 in St. Louis, MO to the late Hubert Thomas & Kathryn Elizabeth (Brinker) Arnold.
On June 7, 1958, he and Joan Elaine Dvorchak were married at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wood River. She survives.
Mr. Arnold was a US Army and US Marine Corps veteran. He retired from Standard Oil/Amoco after working more than 30 years as a civil engineer. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and Holy Angels Catholic Church. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and had served for the City of Wood River Storm Water Commission. He was an avid walker and loved to bowl and spend time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: 3 daughters, Martha Arnold of Rosewood Heights, IL, Sarah (James) Venhaus of Wood River, Rebecca Arnold of Lilburn, GA, 2 sons, Daniel (Barbara) Arnold of Maryland Heights, MO and Chris Arnold of Wood River, 6 grandchildren, Samuel (Kira), Kathryn and Anna Grace Whitaker, Jared & Corey Venhaus and Nathan Arnold, a great-grandson, William Whitaker and a sister, Lillian Arnold of Glen Carbon, IL.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Mary Kathryn Arnold, Ruth Ann Rotter and Jane Arnold.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thurs. Aug. 7, 2014 at Paynic Home for Funerals. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Fri. Aug. 8, 2014 at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Fr. James Flach as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to: Masses, American Diabetes Assoc. or Charity of Choice.
