Herbert Maxeiner

Herbert C. Maxeiner, 82, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at home under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice.   

He was born on September 26, 1932 in Wood River, Illinois, the son of Clarence H. and Ethel M. (Wiegand) Maxeiner. 

He married Janet L. Carr on August 15, 1975.  She survives.  

Herbert was a machinist at Godfrey Machine Shop on Tolle Lane in Godfrey where he retired in 1997.  After retirement, he gave of his time and talents to Habitat to Humanity. Herb was a charter member of the Mississippi Valley Garden Club, and he always enjoyed his garden and took great pride in his compost pile.  He also loved working on lawn mowers, going to yard sales, and finding bargains at the Hilltop Auction.

He is survived by his sons and their spouses, Kenneth & Julita Maxeiner of Lake Charles, LA; Christopher Hendricks of Senoia, GA; Scott and Karrie Hendricks of Alton; thirteen grandchildren, Mandi, Kenny, Nicholas, Kasey, Sarah, Joshua, Joseph, Coltyn, Samantha, Luke, Noah, Annah Sage and Alex; and three great grandchildren, Caden, Ava, and Shelby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Herbert E. Maxeiner and Dale Hendricks, two daughters, Melissa Richards and Diane Parish, and one brother, Charles Maxeiner.  

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 pm Friday, May 15, 2015 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Hope Center or a charity of one’ choice.
