Henry Q. Thompson, 77, formerly of Wood River, passed away at 9:08am on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Relais Bonne Eau Hospice House in Edwardsville. He was born on November 21, 1935, in Harrisburg, Illinois the son of the late William E. and Pauline H. (Adams) Thompson. He married the former Alice A. Couch on March 6, 1959, in Jacksonville, Florida and she survives. Other survivors include three daughters: Linda Beasley and her husband: Michael of Worden, Marilyn Hillen and her husband: Robert of Alton, Beth Modlin and her fiance': Doug Pichee of Alton, nine grandchildren: Eric, Nick, Cassie, Ashley, Jake, Melissa, Tyler, Nathan, Matt, six great grandchildren: Kailey, Rylie, Robert, Hunter, Addie, Josslyn, two sisters and brothers in law: Delia and Ortner Jackson of Harrisburg, Illinois, Hazel and Joe Morten of Cottage Hills, and two brothers and a sister in law: Richard and Barbara Thompson of Galatia, Illinois, and Walter Thompson of Wood River.
He was formerly employed as a machinist at Olin Corp. for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1997. He was formerly a member of the Alton Eagles Aerie #254. He enjoyed antique tractors and being retired.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother: Bill and one sister: Betty.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be 4pm until time of funeral services at 7pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Following visitation and in accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Dr. Loftin C. Woodiel will officiate. Private inurnment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Relais Bonne Eau Hospice House or to Shriner's Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
