Helen R. Haynes, 92, of Wood River, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015 at Eunice Smith Home in Alton. She was born Dec. 15, 1922 in West Salem, Ill., the daughter of Earl and Ethel (Daubs) Hayes. She married LaMoine Haynes on August 12, 1955 in Wood River.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, a stepson Ronald (Sherry) Haynes of Alton; three grandsons, Mark, Michael and Matthew; three granddaughters-in-law; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law Kathy Hayes of Michigan; a nephew, Curtis Cox of Marion; as well as other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Carl, Kenneth and Noble; sisters Lucille, Bernadine and Madeline; nephew Stanley Cox (Betty), as well as other nieces and nephews.
Helen and her husband enjoyed dancing, yard work and were active members of the First Christian Church in Wood River. Helen was a wonderful homemaker who loved to cook, bake and entertain friends and family.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Paynic Home for Funerals where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 12. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Helen’s name to First Christian Church of Wood River or BJC Hospice of Alton.
