Harold Preston Brooks, 81, passed away 10 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born in East Alton on March 6, 1935, he was the son of James Melvin and Blanche (Cloninger) Brooks.

He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1956-57, the worked as a custodian for Owens-IL Glass for 32 years and then for the Wood River - Hartford School District for another 12 years before retiring.

On September 15, 1978 in Wood River, he married Eileen Mae Gerard. She survives.

Surviving also are a daughter, Tina (Rob) Leader of Collinsville; step-daughters, Robbie (Brent) Santy of East Alton, Denise (Dennis) Livezey of Cottage Hills; step-son, David (Susan) Rollf of Wood River; 14 grandchildren, Nicholas Maberry, Amber Bowman, Amber Leader, Derek Rollf, Lilly Workman, Samantha Dugan, Jared Littlefield, Ava Rollf, Dante' Leader, Kaylea Santy, Melissa Wilson, Dustin Wilson, Shane Wilson, Kacey Santy; 12 great grandchildren, Autumn, Bentley, Gianna, Isaiah, Marshon, Nyla, Kameron, Karter, Jayden, Shaylin, Sabashtien and Chloe; and two sisters, Jessie Gaffney of White Hall and Ruth Ann Rodriguez of Arlington, TX.

Preceding in death were his parents; step-son, Robert "Butch" Rollf; two grandchildren, Tara Halford, Joshua Santy; three brothers, Daniel D., James Albert, and Melvin E. Brooks; and a sister, Margaret Gade.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.

Burial will be in Green Pond Cemetery in Pearl with military honors.

Memorials may be made to the family to assist with medical expenses.
