George Huff, 88, of Godfrey passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. He was born in Piasa, IL on July 8, 1926 and was the son of the late Lester and Tossie (Whitlock) Huff. He married June Lois Walters on August 29, 1948 in Kemper, IL and together they raised two daughters and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on August 29, 2014. She survives. He was a WWII veteran serving in Tokyo, Japan. He worked at Laclede Steel Company for 37 years and at the time of his retirement he was the Salary Payroll Supervisor. He was on the Board of the Laclede Credit Union for many years, sang with the Alton Barbershop Group, and volunteered at the Crisis Food Center. He was a long time member of Godfrey Baptist church where he faithfully served on many of the church boards. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Belinda Ballinger (Stanley) of Beardstown and Melanie Madl (Charlie) of Millstadt; two grandchildren and their spouses, Corey and Amy Waters of East Alton, Christy and Tiger Steward of Alton; four great grandchildren, Nicolas Mahan, Logan and Jackson Waters, and Amar’e Steward; brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer Huff of Medora, Frances Eugene Huff of Carlinville and Robert Huff of Medora; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Huff of Medora, and a brother-in-law, Ralph Long of Colorado. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Frost, Hazel Long and Edna Allen; three brothers, William Huff, Harold Huff and Raymond Huff; along with three sisters-in-law, Margaret, Delores and Alma. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Reverend Dr. Glen Greenwood will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308.
