George Frederikk Georgeoff, 85, died at home with his family by his side on
Monday, November 9th, 2015. Born January 1, 1930 in Alton, he was the son of
Nicholas and Mildred (Brent) Georgeoff. He graduated from Alton High School,
and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952 as a Tech Sergeant Administrator.
He attended University of Illinois and had to return home upon the death of his father.
He resumed his education at Shurtleff College and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
In June of 2015, he retired as President, CEO of Tower Maintenance & Erection Corporation, a company he founded, owned and operated for 56 years. In May of 1957, he married Josephine Marie Romano and together they had five children. She survives. He later married Mary Patricia Hill in January of 1980. She preceded him in death on August 17, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two beloved sisters, Eileen Wilhelm and Lucille Rayborn. He is survived by his five children, Nick F. Georgeoff (Rhonda) of St. Louis, MO, Susan Plunkett of California, Christine A. Argyropoulos of Alton, Michael D. Georgeoff of Missouri and Steven K. Georgeoff of Bethalto, eleven grandchildren, Shawn Titsworth, Jason Georgeoff, N. Zachary Georgeoff, Aimee Haug-Gallion, Joshua Plunkett, Jordan Plunkett, Andrianna Argyropoulos, Joanna Argyropoulos, Chelsea Georgeoff, Kaylee Georgeoff, and Brayden Georgeoff, five great-grandchildren, Shawn Jr. Titsworth, Dawson Titsworth, Hayden Titsworth, Zoey Gallion and Elijah George Argyropoulos. He had a lifelong love of education, an avid reader, loved nature and raised Modena Show Pigeons as a child and again as an adult for 30 years and was known to many as “The Bird Man”. He was an admired and respected business man and was deeply respected and loved by his children, grandchildren and great-children who were lucky enough to have learned from his “tough-love” and words of wisdom and learning that “Respect is earned, not given”.
Visitation will be from 4-8pm Friday, November 13th, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 am on Saturday, November 14th, 2015 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church
in Alton. Monsignor Kenneth Steffen will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials made be made to SS Peter & Paul Catholic School. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
