Garcia Deneen 'Red' Kaegi, 88, passed away 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born on January 31, 1926 in Cave-in-Rock, he was the son of Roy Henry and Maude (Oxford) Kaegi.
A U.S. navy veteran, he worked 25 years for the State of Illinois as an engineer.
He married the former Phoebe Baldwin on October 13, 1950 in Wood River. She survives.
Surviving also are two daughters, Joyce Harrington of Wood River, Sherry Hall (her fiance', Mark Hayes) of Wood River; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; grandson, Carson Wright; brother, Wendell Kaegi; two sisters, Beaulah Kaegi, Lucille Moore; son-in-law, Jim Harrington; and mother-in-law, Jerri McGovern.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Dan Smith will officiate.
Burial will follow in Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
Memorials may be made to the 5 A's Animal Shelter of 1st General Baptist Church in Rosewood Heights, where he had been a member.
