Eugene Joseph Gotway, 74, died at 12:56 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024 at St. Louis University Hospital.
Born September 4, 1949 in Carrollton, IL, he was the son of Cletus and Lucille (Zipprich) Gotway.
Mr. Gotway was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. He was a pharmacist for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alton and later for OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton. On May 26, 1973 he married the former Mary Margaret Wittman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Judith McCart (Richard) of Wood River, a son, Joseph Thad Gotway of Alton, two grandchildren, Natasha Mary McCart and Dalton Kevin-Wayne McCart and two brothers, James Gotway of Missouri and Jerome Gotway of Indiana.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center or St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
