Dorothy Parsons-Freeman

Dorothy “Dottie” Parsons-Freeman, 81, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  Born December 18, 1935 in Alton, she was the daughter of Walter and Kathleen (King) Stilwell.  Dottie graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in 1953.  She was a very active member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton and volunteered at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Novitiate in Godfrey.  She married Ronald L. Parsons on October 11, 1953.  He preceded her in death on July 24, 2004.  She married Elbert “Tot” Freeman on December 26, 2004 in Alton.  Along with her husband she is survived by three daughters, Deborah (Kevin) Stahlschmidt of Alton, Nancy Kilmer of Bethalto, and Susan (Gary) Dyer of Alton, one son, Tom (Ann) Parsons of East Alton, one step-daughter, Ann (Spencer) Duncan of Lake Ozark, MO, three step-sons, John Freeman of Alton, David Freeman of Linn Creek, MO, and Daniel (Sandy) Freeman of Godfrey.  Also surviving are six grandchildren, Mike (Deanna) Stuart, Erin (Eddie Gerber) Stahlschmidt, Jeremy (Star) Parsons, Krista Parsons, Hannah Dyer, and Nathan Dyer, 15 step-grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one brother, Gerald Stilwell of Godfrey, and a brother-in-law, Daryl Parsons of Granite City.  Along with her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Stilwell.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home and will continue from 12:00 noon until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church.  Father Peter Donohoe and Father Tom Horan will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.  Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
