Doris Marie Dodson, 88, of Godfrey, IL, died at 2:29 a.m. Sun. Dec. 28, 2014 at home with her family at her side.
She was born Mar. 7, 1926 in Omaha, NE to the late Benjamin G. & Maria Theodora (Vetter) Howden Sr.
On Apr. 3, 1948 she and Melvin R. Dodson were married in Wood River, IL. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1992.
She had been a bookkeeping machine operator at Miller Mutual Insurance. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Wood River Daughters of Isabella and had been a member of the Alton VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include: 5 sons, James (Jacque) Dodson of Aptos, CA, Robert (Sherry) Dodson of Newburg, IN, Thomas Dodson (Eldon Loud) of Imperial, MO, Gerald Dodson (Connie Wooff) of Brighton, IL and John (Melinda) Dodson of Godfrey, 2 daughters, Marilyn (Butch) Wilds of Alton, IL and Linda (Ken) Jonff of Edwardsville, IL, 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William Dodson, a sister, Mary Dixon and 3 brothers, John, Edward & Benjamin G. Howden Jr.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Fri. Jan. 2, 2014 at Paynic Home for Funerals. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Sat. Jan. 3, 2014 at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father James Flach as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Alton.
