Donald D. Chesnut, 86, passed away at 6:15 pm Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
He was born on March 3, 1929 in Sorento, IL, the son of Marion and Bernice (Tipsword) Chesnut.
He is survived by Jane A. Howe, whom he married on June 9, 1956 in Dover, Delaware. The couple just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an accountant at McDonnell Douglas for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1989. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his family. Whether it was on the golf course, in a gym, in a dance studio or the ball field, Don always loved watching and supporting his grandchildren. He was also a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Illinois State fan.
As a devoted father and family man, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Pam Broadway of Bethalto and Mary Beth and Richard Sims of Edwardsville; four grandchildren, Kayla and her husband Jordan McGaughey, Katie Broadway, Kelsey Sims and Connor Sims; a sister, DeMova Hoxsey of Sorento, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Alfred Hoxsey.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, June 29, 2015 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be private.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors given by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
