Charles E. "Chief" Flowers, Sr

Charles E. "Chief" Flowers, Sr, 75, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at his residence.

Born in Wood River on February 21, 1939, he was the son of William Flowers, Sr. and Lois (Dotson) Flowers Gallahue.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he had worked as a crane operator for Laclede Steel for over 30 years before retiring.  He enjoyed fishing and running the Great Oak RV Park in Kissimmee, FL with his wife after retirement.

He married the former Rosemary Shoemaker on August 27, 1960 in Wood River.  She died June 8, 2014.

Surviving are a son, Charlies Flowers, Jr. of Shipman; three daughters, Deborah Wallace (Jeff Masterson) and Dawn Flowers all of Shipman, Diana Flowers (Michael Gillreath) of East Alton; eight grandchildren, Thomas Flowers, Wendi Wallace, Kristen Ruby, Jordan Flowers (Kiara Taylor), Jasmine Sykes, Tommy Sykes, Krista Ammons, Ryan Clothier; six great grandchildren, Jaden, Lilly Rose, Kaylee, Dakota, Jenna, Destiny; brother, Joseph Flowers; sister, Barbara (Ernest) Beckwith of Godfrey; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; step-father, Max Gallahue; wife; granddaughter, Shauna Wallace; and brother, Bill Flowers, Jr.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Marks Mortuary in Wood River was in charge of arrangements.
