John Robert Matro Bowen, 70, passed away at 6:35 pm, November 24, 2014 at VIP Manor in Wood River.
He was born in Alton on October 16, 1944 the son of the late John Robert Matro Sr. and Bernice (Bowen) Matro Abner.
He enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching and Flowers. He was an intelligent man and went to school for biology and served in the Army he was a cryptologist.
He was a self employed maintenance man.
He is survived by three brothers and a sister; Ronald Abner of Florida, Ross (Debbie) Abner of Kentucky, James (Debbie) Abner of Illinois, and Carolyn Suhre of Illinois.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his adoptive parents Albert and Thelma Bowen.
Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded.
Burial will be private.
Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society or St Louis Botanical Garden.
