Robert W. Nappier, age 74, of Bethalto, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born March 24, 1940 in Marshalltown, IA, the son of Robert and Mary Ellen (Plannett) Nappier. He married Ruth Ann Lehnen on February 5, 1959 and she survives.
Robert retired in 2000 after 42 years with Granite City Steel where he worked as an electrician and department Manager. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church as well as the Bethalto Jaycees. Mr. Nappier was a Precinct Committeeman, avid golfer, fisherman, and wood carver. He enjoyed firearms, as well as target shooting. Robert held a patent for a bearing system on the galvanized line. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.
In addition to his wife, Ruth; he is survived by his mother, Mary Ellen Nappier of Bethalto; four children and their spouses, Robert W. and Jan Nappier, Jeffrey Nappier, Scott and T.J. Nappier, all of Bethalto, and Jodi Lynn and Eric Carpenter of Moro; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jason Nappier, Katelyn Nappier, Keagan Nappier, Brian Nappier and Katie Jones, Daniel and Alexis Nappier, Tricia Nappier, and Brandon Carpenter, and Lauren Carpenter; a great-granddaughter, Bethany Nappier; two brothers and a sister, Gerald Nappier of Houston, TX, Joanne and David Welch of Bethalto, and Dennis and Kim Nappier of New Port Richey, Florida; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 30, 2014, from 4 to 8:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 10:00 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church with Fr. Tom Liebler officiating.
Burial will take place at Rose Lawn Memory Garden.
