Bette Schrimpf

Bette A. Schrimpf, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 3:55 p.m., Monday, September 9, 2013 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton where she had resided since June of 2008.

 

She was born on September 23, 1924, in Alton and was the daughter of the late Lawrence Hanke and Anna Marie Downey Hanke.  She married the love of her life, Bob Schrimpf, on December 27, 1945 in Alton.

She had three children, seven grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.

The survivors include two sons and their wives, Bill (Vicki) Schrimpf of Edwardsville, Mark (Rita) Schrimpf of Krum, Texas: a daughter and her husband Anne (Wiley) Davis of Godfrey. Grandchildren are Susan (Bryan) Hatfield, Matt (Jenn) Schrimpf, John Schrimpf, Michelle (John) Hyndman, Katherine (Chris) Phillips, Andrew (Sara) Davis and John Davis.  Great grandchildren Nicholas and Brianna Hatfield, Alexis, Braden and Victoria Schrimpf, Jake, Shane, and Victoria Hyndman, Bryce, Caleb and Grant Phillips, and Abigail, Lucas and Nicholas Davis.

She was a long time member of Cherry Street Baptist Church and a charter member of Faith Fellowship in Alton. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. 

Bette loved life.  She loved chocolates and Coca-Cola.  She loved holidays and parties.  She long stemmed red roses and dancing.  She loved fine shoes, clothes and jewelry.  But above all, she loved her husband, Bob, and her family.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Eunice Smith Nursing Home for their excellent care, love and concern for Bette over the past 5 years.

In addition to her parents, her husband Bob Schrimpf, two brothers, Bud Hanke and Larry Hanke, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14 with the service at 11:00 followed by a private burial at Valhalla Cemetery.  Dr. Daymond Talkington will officiate.  Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral home is in charge of the burial arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Fellowship (ffworship.com) or the Alzheimers Association – St Louis Chapter (alz.org).
