James Erbert "Jim" Vanhorn Sr.

James Erbert "Jim" Vanhorn Sr., 82, passed away at 10:02am on Monday, June 10, 2013, at Barnes - Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. 

He was born on January 21, 1931, in Benton, Illinois the son of the late Rev E. and Mary L. (Moonyham) Vanhorn.  He married the former Jean Eubanks on November 27, 1952, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and she survives. 

Other survivors include three daughters and two sons in law: Gay Cummins of Wood River, Pam and Gary Voyles of Wood River, Lori and Randy McCoy of East Alton, two grandsons: D.J. Cummins and his fiance: Erin Leary of Bethalto, Bobby Cummins and his wife: Krystal of Bethalto, and a great granddaughter whom he adored: Haylee Marie Cummins.

He was formerly employed as a senior technical engineer at McDonnell Douglas for 30 years prior to his retirement.  He was a member of the Lincoln Land Plymouth Club.  He owned and operated Vanhorn's Upholstery.  He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: James Erbert "Jim" Vanhorn Jr., a brother: Loren Vanhorn, and a son in law: Donny Cummins. 

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, June 14, 2013, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.  Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the funeral home.  Rev. Frank Sparks will officiate.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors.
