John Snider

John William Snider, 70, died at 8:33 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2013 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on the Otterville Road in Jersey County.He was born on Aug. 4, 1942 in Hardin, one of three children born to the late John and Marie (Beer) Snider.John served his country honorably with the U.S. Army serving in Germany, and was a member of the Grafton American Legion. A perfectionist in everything he did, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, and enjoyed his life to the fullest and passed that along to his family and friends.He was formerly married to the Mary Ann Schell of Jerseyville, and together they raised their family of three children in Jerseyville for many years.Surviving are his three children & their spouses, Johnny Snider of Knoxville, Cathy & Dan Hagarty of Kane, and Scott & Kathryn Snider of Alton; eight grandchildren, Tyler, Brooke, Hannah, Emma, Claire, Lila, Grayson, and John; a great grandson, Jack; and his girlfriend, Nancy (Pohlman) Bowman of Grafton.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Julia "DeeDee" Hazelwonder; and a sister in infancy.Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Grafton American Legion Post 648 will conduct military graveside rites at 4:15 p.m.Cremation will take place following the services.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Grafton American Legion.
