Felix Macias

Felix Macias, 77, died at 9:22 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born January 19, 1936 in Alton, he was the son of Thomas and Dolores (Araujo) Macias. He attended Alton public schools and played football for Alton High School graduating in 1954. He received an athletic scholarship to Culver Stockton College and in 2005 was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Macias taught high school in Palmyra, MO for two years before teaching at Alton High School, retiring in 1998 after 38 years of service. While at Alton High he coached football and baseball, and taught driver education. He also taught driver education at East Alton-Wood River High School for six years. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved St. Louis Cardinal and Chicago Cubs Baseball. His life revolved around the love of his life, Betty, his four sons and their families. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Alton. On January 13, 1962 he married the former Betty Lou Barry in Alton. She survives. Also surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law; Mark and Debbie Macias, Barry and Maria Macias, Rob and Lori Macias, and Brian and Amy Macias all of Godfrey, 11 grandchildren; Hillary, Emily, Natalie, Sofia, Arie, Alex, Isabella, Isaac, Owen, Brody and Eme Macias, two brothers, Tom Macias of Rosewood Heights and Mike Macias of North Hills, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Robert, Ralph and “Dickie-Boy” Macias. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be private. Reverend Mark Scandrett will officiate.
