Virginia “Ginny” Mae (Grizzle) Miller

Virginia “Ginny” Mae (Grizzle) Miller, 94, went to be with her Lord at 9:05 Sunday, February 10, 2013. She was born December 22, 1918 to Joseph Elmer and Bertha Helen (Sprich) Grizzle who lived on a 50 acre farm northeast of Jerseyville off of Range Line Road. Virginia married Aden Miller on June 26, 1937 in Jerseyville. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1993 at their home in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida on Okaloosa Island. Virginia retired from the Olin Corporation after over 25 years of service. She was very involved with her church, helping in the nursery, Bible School or wherever needed and for many years Virginia and Aden were caretakers of the grounds at First Southern Baptist Church on Humbert road in Alton. She was an avid cook and anyone that came to visit, she wanted to feed you. They always had a large vegetable garden and Virginia canned all the fruit and vegetables she could get her hands on and what she didn’t can she’d freeze. The later years of her life she became legally blind but she enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds on her front porch. She and Aden were always there for anyone that needed help; family or friend. Neither knew how to say no. Surviving is a daughter, Norma Mae (Miller) Bertels and husband Charles H. Bertels of Bethalto, a daughter-in-law, Linda (Gunderman) Miller of Herrin, IL, grandchildren; Jenny Mae (Miller) Rulff of Seattle, Washington, Dale E. Bertels and wife Lynette of Viera, Florida, Dana A. Bertels and wife Lisa of Bunker Hill, Darryl G. Bertels and wife Cathy of Worden, great grandchildren; Melinda M. (Bertels) and husband Richard Ludwig of Cottage Hills, Nicholas Bertels and fiancée Becca of Bunker Hill, Kyle Tyler Wright and wife Roberta “Bo” of Hartford, CT, Ethan C. Wright and fiancée Tiffany Smith of Roxana, Megan R. Wright of Wood River, Marlene R. Rulff of Seattle, Washington, Jake Miller and Sydnee Miller of Bethalto, step-grandchildren; Billy DeConcini of Worden, Trudy Norman of Washington, IL, Mont Bates of Westminster, CO, Susan Underwood (Herb) of Carbondale, IL, step-great grandchildren; William “Will” DeConcini, Jessica Norman, Loren Smith, Lacey Bates, and Emma underwood, step-great-great grandchildren; Taylor Bray, sisters-in-law; Mable Grizzle of Alton, Polly Miller of Decatur, IL, Dixie Joan ( Miller) and husband David Cobb of Tulsa, OK, Virginia Grizzle/Collins of Jerseyville, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Genevieve Louise, a son, Aden William “Bill”, a grandson, Michael Lee Miller, and brothers, Joseph Elmer Jr., Frank Everett, and Kenneth Grizzle. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. Reverend Andre’ Dobson and Reverend Dr. Rick Patrick will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or a charity of choice. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
