Leslie Bartee

Leslie “Les” Alan Bartee, 68, passed away unexpectedly at 12:20 pm on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his residence. 

He was born September 9, 1944 in Alton, IL, the son of Dorothy (Higgins) Bartee and the late John Bartee.

He married Barbara Daffron on September 22, 1990 in Bethalto, IL. She survives.

 

Les was a retired Carpenter from the Carpenter Local #377 for 42 years, retiring in 2004.  In his earlier years, he was involved with the Bethalto Volunteer Fire Department and the Bethalto American Legion Post 214.  Les was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying as much time as possible fishing for crappie and hunting all wildlife.  His favorite times were moments spent with his family during gatherings, sporting events, hunting and fishing, and playing with his grandchildren.  In the last few years, you could find him at many of his granddaughters’ softball and tee ball games. 

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Bartee of Bethalto; his mother, Dorothy Bartee of Bethalto; his son and daughter –in-law Steve and Amanda Bartee of Bunker Hill; daughter Tammy Darr of Moro; daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Ronnie Newby of Wood River; his brother Jack Bartee of Bethalto; his sister and brother-in-law Geneva and Elvis Wiseman of Roxana; his sister and brother-in-law Linda and Dale Pauley of Moro; his sister, Lisa Sullenger of Bethalto. He is also survived by his pride and joys, seven grandchildren, Teghan, Kaylin and Adelynn Bartee, Stacey and Travis Darr, Charlie (Tonya) and Andy Newby; three great-grandchildren, Peyton Darr, Caiden and Mason Newby and several nieces and nephews, along with everyone who knew him as “Papa Les”.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Bartee; his brother, Jim Bartee, an infant son, David Bartee; his aunt, March Gillahan; Tommy “Tom Cat” Subick, who was a dear friend and like a brother to him; along with his beloved dog Trixie.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Bethalto Church of God.  Funeral services will be at 10 am Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the church with Pastor Jeremy Robinson officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
