Marie Withers, 91, passed away at 1:18 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2012. She was born August 1, 1921 in Grassy, MO, the daughter of Elmer and Bertha (Turner) Sitze. On September 14, 1941 in St. Charles, MO she married the former Lindel M. Withers and he preceded her in death October 11, 1988. She worked at Olin Corporation for several years while her children were young. Later, she pursued her talent as an excellent seamstress and made drapes for Sears and Superior Interiors before going into business for herself. She enjoyed baking pies and cobblers and especially liked to prepare chicken and dumplings for her family and friends. During the summer months she took great pride in her garden and the many tomatoes she would grow. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Ed Rushing and Mitzi and Randy Erthal all of Godfrey, a son, Scott and his wife Debbie Withers of Coffeen, IL, five grandchildren; Lori and Tim Bregenzer, John Curtis, Heather Honchell and Tammy Finkes, and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Candice Walz, two sisters, Velda Ray and Bessie Sitze and three brothers, Milford, Charles and Norman Sitze. There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held by family and close friends. Burial will be private at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
