Phyllis Irene Metzmaker, 83, died at 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at her residence. She was born January 23, 1929 in Springfield, IL the daughter of the late Phillip and Hazel (Brubaker) Mayol. She contracted polio in 1954. She graduated from Hannibal High School in Hannibal, MO; she worked as a telephone operator and later completed two years of nurses training. She loved to do crossword puzzles and was a member of Godfrey Baptist Church. On April 14, 1951 in Springfield she married Robert “Bob” D. Metzmaker, Sr. and he survives. She was a devoted mother to her three children; Debbie Harrington (Dave) of Alton, Robbie Metzmaker (Barbara) of Alton and David Mark Metzmaker (Beverly) of Melbourne, FL, four grandchildren; Christa Blaylock (Jody), Kyle Metzmaker (Sha Sha), David Dyson Harrington, and Shawn Harrington (Rachael), two great grandchildren; Suya Lynn Metzmaker and Bo Alex Blaylock and two brothers; Robert Mayol (Mary) and Amon Wade (Carolyn). Visitation will be Friday, December 21, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Glen Greenwood to officiate. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
