John H. Huber, 90, passed away on Friday January 27, 2012 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born on March 11, 1921 in Nokomis, IL, the son of John and Barbara (Uhle) Huber.
He married Lota A. Freeman in 1951 in Alton. She passed away on July 24, 2008.
John served his country in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He was a millwright and pipefitter at the Alton Box Board. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the VFW Post 1308 in Alton. He went to a caddies breakfast each month, loved watching his son and grandson race at the local track and he was anticipating when he would get to watch his 8 year old great grandson at the midget races. He enjoyed golfing, the outdoors, hunting, fishing and most of all spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
He is survived by his son, William Robert “Bob” Stanton and his wife, Shirley of Godfrey; three grandchildren and their spouses, John Stanton, Jason and Michele Stanton and Joe Shannon Stanton; five great grandchildren, Casey Jo Stanton, James Bradley and Jacob Stanton, Joe Hauseman and Justin Stanton; two sisters, Edna Napp of Michigan and Mary Ann Warren of Spokane, WA; a brother, Paul Huber of Alton and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roman Huber and a sister, Mary Ann Warren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Staten Fine Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308.
