Richard Hess

Richard L. Hess, age 71, passed away at 7:58 am Saturday, January 14 2012 at his residence with his family by his side. 

He was born on January 29, 1940 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Henry & Viola (Bast) Hess.

He married Arlene L. (Schmollinger) on December 26, 1958 in Edwardsville, IL.  She survives.

Richard served his county in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965.  He was employed at Jomico Fabrications in St Louis, MO in Quality Assurance for 45 years retiring in 2011.  He was a member of the VFW Post 3862 out of Vandalia, IL.  He enjoyed woodworking, making stain glass, going to the Alton Belle Casino with his wife and spending time with his family and especially his morning coffee group at McDonalds in Bethalto.

He is survived by his wife Arlene; three son’s and daughter-in-laws, Jesse & Kim Hess of Granite City, IL, Gregory & Beth Hess of Hot Springs, AR and James & Lois Hess of Greenville, IL; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Hess, Matthew Affolter, Emily & Nick Parskus, Christopher & Melissa Hess, Michelle Hess, Timothy & Sara Hess, Anthony Ransom, Steven Hess, Heather Ransom-Hess and Sarah-Hess Ransom; three great grandchildren, Gabrielle and Chloe Affolter and Scottlynn Hess.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather James Hunter.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf in Bethalto with Father James Flach officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the Tri City Shiner’s Club in Granite City, IL.
