Stuart Kadell

Stuart Gregory Kadell, 84, died at 3:15 p.m., Friday, January 6, 2012 at his residence after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born on the family farm in Jersey County, Il. on Oct. 2, 1927 one of twelve children born to the late William F. & Frances (Goetten) Kadell.

He married the former Rosemary Green on May 6, 1950 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville,  and they were married for 22 years before her unexpected death on Nov. 28, 1972.

He was engaged in farming the majority of his life, and had also worked at Olin Corp. on and operator retiring in 1987.

Survivng are his five children & their spouses, James Kadell of Jerseyville, Janet Cunningham, and her companion, Vic Trout of Brighton, Jeff & Laura Kadell of Jerseyville, Joan & Rick Ray of Fieldon, and Jenny & Bill Strebel of Jerseyville; 14 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren; also surviving are a brother & sister in law,:  William & Vivian Kadell of Jerseyille, three sisters, Virginia Ewen of Jerseyville, Eileen Archer of Shipman, Betty Weller, and her husband, Kenneth of Jerseyville; a brother in law, Darwin Ogburn of Alton; and a longtime companion, Opal Powell of Jerseyville.

In addition to his parents, and his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Gregory Strebel on Jan. 23, 2007; a great grandson, Adam Christopher Kadell; three sisters, Maurita Walsh, Helen Crocker, Jean Ogburn; and three brothers, Edward Kadell, Donald Kadell & Robert Kadell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, where he was longtime member.

He will be laid to rest alongside his wife at the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.

In lieu of all flowers and plants, the family requests any memorials be directed to an fund established to assist with medical expenses incurred by immediate family members in their current battle with cancer.
